In the wake of Steven Spielberg's Jaws in 1975, another underwater predator quickly appeared on screen ready to devour the box-office. In 1978, instead of one large menace, Piranha introduced hundreds of lethal, voracious nibblers onto the big screen in a box-office hit directed by Joe Dante (Gremlins), written by John Sayles (The Howling) and with Roger Corman (Death Race) as executive producer. It even spawned a sequel directed by Avatar's James Cameron. Now, three decades on, just when you thought it was finally safe to go back in the water .... Every year the population of sleepy Lake Victoria explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 for Spring Break - a riot of sun and drunken fun. But this year there is something more to worry about than hangovers and complaints from local old timers. A new type of terror is about to cut loose on the normally tranquil lake. A sudden underwater tremor opens a subterranean cave and unleashes scores of super-hungry prehistoric man-eating fish. Amongst the quickly depleting vacationers an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area's new razor-toothed predators, Piranha.
